Subject: Final reminder: invoice the invoice ($2,000.00)

Hi there,

This is the final reminder for invoice the invoice, $2,000.00, due the due date. It is now 30 days overdue.

The late fee on the invoice terms now stands at $30.00. I need one of two things by the end of this week: a payment date in writing, or the reason the invoice is being held.

If I don't hear back, I'll have to pause further work and pursue the balance. I'd much rather just get this closed.

Or never write this email again.

Flat Invoice sends the invoice and sends these reminders on day 3, 7 and 14 by itself. 3 invoices a month free, then $2 per invoice. Edits, resends and reminders are free.

How late fees on invoices work

You can only charge a fee that was on the invoice or contract before the work started. Adding one after the fact doesn't hold up. Put the rate on every invoice as a line like "1.5% per month on balances past due".

1% to 2% a month is the normal range. That's 12% to 24% a year. Many US states cap interest on commercial debts, so check yours before going above 1.5%.

Charge it the first time. A fee you waive once is a fee the client knows is fake. Even $20 on the first late invoice sets the pattern for every one after.

This calculator uses simple interest, pro-rated by day on a 30-day month. That's the most common and the easiest to defend. It is not legal advice.
